ANDERSON, Ind. -- The doors were open, but only one bidder came through them for Thursday’s planned auction of the iconic PNC Bank Building at 1106 Meridian Street in downtown Anderson.
The auction was supposed to start at 11 a.m. in the bank building lobby, but auctioneer Fine & Company delayed it because only one qualified bidder came in.
Fine & Company had called the planned auction, “an absolute auction – to be sold to the highest bidder regardless of price,” but there was no auction after all.
The PNC Bank building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1985.
Fine describes the building as, “a high-profile location, near the courthouse, with incredible visibility and brand recognition this building has unlimited potential.”
27 percent of the space is currently occupied, most of it by the PNC bank on the main floor.
Fine says the property is, “…iconic with prominent corner locations in downtown Anderson. Anderson is experiencing urban growth with the expansion of high-tech industry. Each offers tremendous upside potential with the influx of tech orientated businesses migrating from the core Indianapolis market due to the pro-business environment of Anderson.”
Fine says it will reschedule the auction, but will still consider bids.
