ANDERSON, Ind. – For the second consecutive year, communities in Anderson will see a decrease in their electric bills.

Officials from the Indiana Municipal Power Agency said beginning Jan. 1, 2018, Anderson Municipal Light & Power customers will notice a 5.18 percent decrease in their electric bills.

“While prices seem to be on the rise for other utilities, IMPA is extremely proud to pass on a decrease in wholesale electric rates to our member municipal utilities for 2018,” commented Raj Rao, president and CEO.

The decrease is the result of IMPA’s investments in generation and transmission projects over the last two decades, according to the company.

Earlier this week in Muncie, Indiana Michigan Power customers expressed concern at a city hall meeting about a possible utility increase. Those customers could see $25 added to their monthly bill if the new rate is approved.

Officials with IMPA also said solar projects have helped contribute to decreased costs.

“We appreciate IMPA’s efforts to keep wholesale rates low, which in turn helps the citizens and businesses of Anderson to thrive,” said Anderson Mayor Thomas Broderick Jr.
