Man arrested in shooting outside Evansville Walmart entrance

Witnesses describe altercation before shooting

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Police have arrested a man they said shot another man outside the entrance of a southern Indiana Walmart store.

Isaiah Green, 24, was arrested early Monday morning on charges of attempted murder and four counts of criminal recklessness.

The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. Sunday at the store on Burkhardt Road, Evansville police Sgt. Jason Cullum told the Evansville Courier Press.

Tavon Burns, 30, was taken to a hospital. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

Cullum said investigators believe Burns was trying to flee from the occupants of another vehicle that had followed his car into the parking lot.

A witness told police that Burns had apparently been in an altercation with the other vehicle that began on the Lloyd Expressway.

Investigators said they think a total of three shots were fired. No one else was injured. Cullum said that was "fortunate," considering how many people are normally outside that Walmart.

"The bullet doesn't care what the intended target is," he said. "The bullet just goes."
