INDIANAPOLIS – Two college students were shaken after learning a man had been peeping at them through their home’s backyard early Sunday morning on Indy’s south side.

Around 4 a.m. in Wichita Hill at Southern Dunes subdivision, 21-year-old Shelby and a friend had wrapped up an early morning swim in her parent’s backyard when she later discovered a man had been peeping at them.

Security camera footage revealed the man began spying on the women through the home’s 6-foot fence while they were in the pool. The man later snuck inside the yard once the two went into the home, and moved security cameras out of his way before stealing a TV from the backyard.

Shelby said the footage also showed the man positioning himself outside the window where he could get a better look at them as they slept inside the home.

“One of the windows he was looking in on was open and was screened when we were in the living room sleeping,” said Shelby.

She said she went outside again and unknowingly became close to the man a second time.

“I came out to the front yard to get to my car in the driveway and he was literally behind the other car that was next to mine,” said Shelby. “Why are you that comfortable to be that close to me and the house and how long where you there? How long have you been watching?"

Her stepfather Eric reported the incident to police and began taking extra security measures.

“That just shows you can never get too comfortable,” said Eric. “Someone like that is capable of a lot more than just theft."
