MUNCIE, Ind. - A man who assaulted two Muncie police officers before being shot by one of them was formally charged Friday.
Bryan Modglin, 32, has been charged with attempted murder, four counts of battery resulting in bodily injury and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
Police say they encountered Modglin after officers headed to Kruzzers Night Club at 3421 S. Walnut St. on a report of a fight.
MPD said as officers arrived, Modglin tried to flee the scene in his car, and an officer pulled him over for a traffic stop a short distance from the bar.
During the stop, the officer said Modglin physically attacked the officer, repeatedly striking him the face and head. A second officer arrived on the scene and MPD said Modglin then attacked that officer, hitting him too in the head and face. The officer said Modglin pinned him to a fence and began to strangle the officer.
That’s when the officer said he pulled his weapon and shot Modglin.
Modglin was taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital, and later transferred to the Delaware County Jail.
