WHITESTOWN, Ind. -- A man is dead after he was ejected from a car following a pursuit with a Boone County Sheriff's Deputy early Sunday morning.

The pursuit started around 2:15 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Indianapolis Road and Whitestown Parkway.

"He had to take an evasive maneuver because there was a northbound vehicle traveling 100 mph that ran the stop sign and continued north," said Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen.

The deputy then turned on his emergency lights and tried to catch up to the vehicle. At that time, Sheriff Nielsen said a Whitestown Police Officer joined in the pursuit to help.

The officer and deputy rounded a curb on Indianapolis Road near the Love's Travel Shop and noticed the 2008 Nissan Sentra had left the road.

The car traveled 50 yards and ended up on the other side of a retention pond, according to Sheriff Nielsen.

The driver of the Nissan, who Nielsen identified as Antonio Angel Barragan, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy will be performed on Monday.

The incident remains under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
