Man dies days after snow-covered Interstate 70 crash

Crash involved 6 vehicles, ISP says

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. - A man died more than a week after he was injured in a crash that involved six vehicles on Interstate 70.

Indiana State Police said David L. McDonald, 65, of Indianapolis, had been hospitalized since the Jan. 16 crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 in Putnam County. McDonald died Saturday.

"The crash occurred as vehicles were slowing and/or stopping for another crash in the westbound lanes," said ISP Sgt. Joe Watts. "The crash involved passenger cars and tractor-trailer combinations. The roadway was snow covered and slick at the time."

Police said McDonald's car was struck by a tractor-trailer, forcing the car into the guardrail and pinning McDonald in the vehicle.
