Man faces felony drug charges after 6 marijuana plants, 33 guns found in home

INDIANAPOLIS - An Indianapolis man was arrested after police said they found 33 guns and 6 large marijuana plants inside his home on the city's southeast side.

Tuesday evening, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were sent to a home in the 1900 block of Cross Willow Lane on reports of a burglar alarm. When officers arrived, they found an open back door and a broken window. As police searched the home, they smelled the strong odor of marijuana.

After obtaining a search warrant, police said they found and confiscated 6 large marijuana plants, 27 handguns, five rifles, one shotgun and several rounds of ammunition.

During the search, police said the homeowner, George Schlemmer, 52, returned home and was immediately taken into custody.

Schlemmer faces preliminary felony charges of dealing in marijuana and possession of marijuana, police said.

He was taken to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center on a $7,500 bond.
