INDIANAPOLIS -- A man was hospitalized Saturday morning after being rescued from a house fire in Indy.

Firefighters said the 54-year-old was listed in "extremely critical" condition.

A Beech Grove police officer spotted the fire in the Carriage Courts neighborhood and called for assistance around 6 a.m.

The fire occurred within a building that contained four condos.

Officers said the fire was in the man’s bedroom, although they do not know yet if that is where it started - or how it started. There were no smoke detectors in the home.

Crews rescued the man and neighbors were alerted.

It took crews about 20 minutes to put out the flames. They estimated about $60,0000 in damage.

Officers do not know yet if utilities were connected between the quads.  If they were and damaged, crews plan to help people find shelter from the cold.
