INDIANAPOLIS - A man was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 65 in Pike Township.
The crash was reported just after 3 a.m. Monday on I-65 near 71st Street when a 2000 BMW ran into the back of the semi, dispatchers said.
First responders said the man's car slid under the semi. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was later identified as Alfonso Rios Garcia, 29, of Indianapolis.
Police said the truck driver was traveling at normal speed when he felt something strike the back of his truck. The driver told police the car was still pinned under his trailer after he'd pulled to the shoulder to investigate.
The northbound lanes of I-65 were shut down near mile marker 124 as crews worked to clear the scene. Police reopened the lanes to rush hour traffic just before 7 a.m.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation. An autopsy will be done to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
