WESTFIELD, Ind. -

A family narrowly escaped serious injury early Monday when a pickup truck crashed into their Hamilton County home.

Just after midnight, Westfield Fire Department crews said a man was sitting on his couch at his home in the 16000 block of Countryside Boulevard when he heard a noise coming from outside.

Seconds later, his bookcase began shaking and a pickup truck crashed through the wall, stopping just inches from where the man was sitting.

Westfield firefighters said the truck crashed halfway into the home, trapping the driver for a short time. The man's wife and child were upstairs during the crash. They were not harmed, officials said.

"While this was a tragic night for our Westfield family, we are so fortunate no one was seriously injured," said WFD spokesman John Barrett.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.

Officials did not say if the driver would face any charges.
