INDIANAPOLIS -- After helping capture a fleeing suspect, police are recognizing an Indianapolis man and getting his damaged watch replaced.
On Nov. 2, police officers were chasing a juvenile suspect, believed to be trespassing and smoking marijuana in an abandoned house.
The suspect was running in an alley near the intersection of Washington and Oxford streets.
At the same time, Michael Hunsucker was arriving at the Good News Ministry, where he's a director. He saw the suspect running toward him and police behind yelling, "Stop, police!"
Hunsucker tackled the suspect, giving police time to catch up.
When he tackled the juvenile, it caused cuts to his knuckles and head, as well as damaged his new $400 Garmin watch.
The story eventually made its way to Garmin through social media. The Garmin Fitness Corporation has offered to replace the watch and give him a care package to thank him for helping police.
In a Facebook comment, Garmin Fitness said:
Unfortunately Garmin cannot reach out to Dean from our official FB page. Our company would love to exchange out his Forerunner watch and give him a care package. Please have him send us a direct message on Facebook. We think what he did was fantastic and selfless.
