FISHERS, Ind. - A man and a woman were taken into police custody Thursday after police accused them in a theft at a furniture store in Fishers.
About 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Fishers police said they were sent to The Kittles Distribution Center in the 8600 block of Roberts Drive on reports of three people trying to buy furniture using fraudulent information.
Kittles' employees told police the suspects backed a U-Haul truck into their loading dock to receive the merchandise.
When police arrived at the store, they saw two men standing near the U-Haul. When police walked up to the truck, one of the men jumped in a van and drove away. The other man was detained by police.
The van didn't get very far before the suspect hopped out and fled on foot into the Walmart parking lot, police said. Officers searched the area, but were unable to find him.
Police said a woman in the van was taken into custody.
Rogar Simmons, 34, and Michelle Doehring, 53, both of Cleveland, were arrested and taken to the Hamilton County Jail on felony charges.
Investigators said they believe the suspects may be linked to other thefts in Marion and Hamilton counties.
More charges may be filed, police said.
