SEYMOUR, Ind. -- Four months after Don Mink's mother died, he still hasn't received her ashes from North Dakota.

Mink's mother's ashes were placed in a box, then sealed in an envelope by the crematorium. They were mailed four months ago, and still haven't made it to Mink's house in Seymour, Indiana.

"I have no way of laying my mother to rest and getting closure," he said.

A post office spokesperson said the envelope was found at a Memphis sorting facility, but it was empty. An internal investigation is underway to find the envelope.

USPS released a statement, saying:

"The Postal Service offers our deepest sympathy to the Mink family for the loss of their loved one. We are keenly aware of their desire to locate the missing item as soon as possible. We regret that to date the cremains have not been located, but are committed to our ongoing, vigilant search to find them."

Mink said the entire situation is "mind boggling."
