INDIANAPOLIS - Several hundred high school musicians will have the chance to win an important title during Band Day when the Indiana State Fair kicks off Friday.
Musicians were preparing at Southside High School in Muncie over the summer.
The band includes 60 wind musicians, 20 percussion members and about 30 members of the color guard.
Band Director Jeremiah Bowman practices the marching band every day after the Fourth of July except for Sundays.
The cool weather added a touch of relief this summer season, but everyone knows the work is hard and repetitive.
In order to win Band Day on Friday at the Fair, as they have six times in the last 13 years, Southside will need to perfect their performance.
“They all lead up to State Fair Band Day where they crown first place and Summer Band Champion,” Bowman said.
Their plan was to play with heart, dance with enthusiasm and leave it all on the field.
