INDIANAPOLIS – A Marian University cheerleader and Indiana Pacemate was rushed to the hospital Saturday night after she fell during a performance routine.
Nici Denney was injured during the first quarter of the Marian v Lindenwood game at St. Vincent Field.
A Marian University spokesperson said one of their cheerleaders was thrown in the air during a stunt and came crashing down, landing hard on the track just off the football field.
Fans and family members of Denney watched the tragic incident.
"When I saw the EMT's coming to take care of her and put the neck brace to stabilize her head, that always makes me think neck injury. A bunch of us fans were concerned about her,” said Cherry Jones. “A lot of us fans were praying over her and just hope that she makes a full recovery and just no injuries at all."
Officials at IU Methodist Hospital said Denney was admitted into their facility and a Marian University spokesperson said the cheerleader is in stable condition.
The school released a brief statement on the incident:
“The Marian Community is praying for her swift recovery."
