INDIANAPOLIS - Police are looking for a woman who apparently escaped while in custody at the City-County Building and was later discovered missing from the Marion County Jail.
Authorities are not sure when Brandy Majors, 32, escaped, but they think it happened Friday.
She was being held on a warrant in Hendricks County on an auto theft charge. She had also been charged with receiving stolen property and driving while suspended.
"The Marion County Sheriff's Office investigation is continuing, but it appears that Majors escaped from the City-County Building's jail receiving yesterday," said Katie Carlson, Marion County sheriff's public information officer. "Majors apparently escaped from Central Receiving prior to being evaluated by the medical office in the City-County Building."
Majors had been arrested at 8900 E. 42nd St. on July 11, officials said.
Authorities are now looking for Majors.
The Marion County Jail had been locked down for several hours Saturday afternoon and evening during a search of the jail for Majors.
Marion County Sheriff John Layton said 1,081 prisoners were being held in the jail as of Saturday, a number he considers a crisis level.
The jail's capacity is 1,150, but Layton said they try to keep a cushion of about 100 inmates so that they are prepared for an influx over the weekend.
