LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- Lawrence Township schools want your input on the future of the school district. In the midst of an enrollment boom, the school is exploring a few options to make room for extra students.
15,765 students are enrolled in Lawrence Township schools this fall. That’s an increase of just over a thousand students from three years ago.
Administrators have looked into options to make room for the additional students. They came up with three proposals. One was to add on to the two existing middle schools, Belzer and Fall Creek Valley. The second was to repurpose the Lawrence Education and Community Center (LECC) at 6501 Sunnyside Road as an all sixth grade campus. The third proposal was to use the LECC as a third middle school campus.
There will be two public hearings on the proposals. The first will take place Tuesday, October 17 at 6 p.m. at the LECC. The second is Thursday, October 19 at 6 p.m. at Lawrence Central High School.
Lawrence Schools spokesperson Dana Altemeyer says the school is particularly interested in hearing from parents of fourth grade students and younger because they will be the ones impacted most by the changes.
