INDIANAPOLIS -- The MSD of Lawrence Township will unveil the newly renovated McKenzie Center for Innovation & Technology (MCIT) during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 5th at noon.

Built in 1996, MCIT is named for former superintendent, Dr. Bernard McKenzie. As part of a $127 million Blue Ribbon Facilities Plan, MCIT recently completed a $4.2 million renovation and addition of a new culinary program space, named Bernie’s Place Restaurant. A cosmetology program space, named Studio 75, was also added.

This is the third renovation on the building.

MCIT is available for students from Lawrence Central and Lawrence North and houses state-of-the-art equipment and materials in classrooms and labs. According to Dana Altemeyer, the Coordinator of Communications, PR, and Market for MSD of Lawrence Township, MCIT embraces rigorous academic programs and diverse technological career courses. Students are prepared for post-secondary education at two and four-year colleges, military services, workplace entry, or advanced technical training in a variety of business, medical, and industrial fields.

Superintendent Dr. Shawn A. Smith said, “This expansion allows us to address the growing enrollments in these career paths as Lawrence Central and Lawrence North students begin to explore their college and career interests. We are so fortunate that all district renovations are taking place without a tax increase to our local patrons.”

Programs at MCIT available to students include: Auto Service Technology, Collision Repair, Cosmetology, Interactive Media, Computer Technology, Culinary Arts, Health Services, Criminal Justice, Construction Trades, JAG Jobs or America’s Grads, Project Lead the Way (PLTW), Biomedical Sciences, PLTW Pre-Engineering, and Business.
