Mass evictions ordered after judge rules north-side apt. complex uninhabitable

INDIANAPOLIS - A northeast-side Indianapolis apartment complex looked like a ghost town after a judge ordered a mass eviction.

The Harmony Park Place Apartments were cleared out after the Marion County Health Department declared many of the units near 39th Street and Emerson Avenue uninhabitable.

Many residents packing up their things Wednesday said the apartments used to be nice but have since failed to provide basic necessities including running water.

"They always wanted us to pay our rent but we didn't have hot water for the longest time. We didn't have water. They won't collect trash. In the beginning, it used to be a nice place to live but then it just changed management two or three times and nothing got rectified around here," former resident Vashni McArthur said.

A few of the residents told RTV6 they would be moving into other apartments and  some said they'd be going to a nearby hotel.
