INDIANAPOLIS -- December 31, 2015 was Mayor Greg Ballard's last day in office.
And for his last official act, the mayor agreed to officiate a friend's wedding downtown.
Local photographer Juan Silva says he's gotten to know Mayor Ballard over the years as he covered Ballard's terms in office.
Silva says Ballard didn't hesitate when he was asked to officiate the wedding.
He pronounced Juan and his partner, Jon Clifford, husbands to each other during a small ceremony at a Mass Ave bookstore.
The mayor and the newlyweds said the ceremony was not about sending any kind of political message.
It was simply about friends and family gathering to celebrate this new union.
