INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis now has its first comprehensive youth jobs program.

Project Indy was introduced Wednesday by Mayor Joe Hogsett.

Private and non-profit groups will provide job training, internships, and job opportunities for Indianapolis teens beginning this summer.

Hogsett says the city and the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee have identified more than 1,000 jobs for teens.

They can click here to apply for unfilled summer jobs for 2016.

The announcement also follows a designation of Indianapolis as a "Summer Impact Hub" by the White House.

It means that Project Indy can get support from 16 federal agencies for youth summer jobs, education, meals and violence reduction programs.

In addition, a $2 million federal grant will fund YouthWorks Indy, the city’s first employment and workforce training program targeted at teens.
