Cause of crash under investigation

GREENFIELD, Ind. - Three men were hospitalized after a serious head-on crash in Greenfield late Wednesday.

The crash was reported about 11 p.m. on State Road 9 when two vehicles collided.  Police said a tan 2005 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Jeffery Franklin, 26, of Greenfield, was headed north on S.R. 9. About the same time, a tan 2005 Mazda 6 driven by Dylan Woods, 18, of Greenfield, was headed south on S.R. 9.  Police said Christopher Ryan, 21, of Greenfield, was riding with Woods at the time of the crash.

All three men were taken to IU Methodist Hospital. Franklin was listed in critical condition, and Ryan and Woods were listed in serious condition.

Update: As of Thursday afternoon, Franklin and Ryan were both listed in critical condition.

Investigators said a clear bag of marijuana was found on the front seat of the Malibu and that drug use could be a factor in the cause of the crash. As part of the investigation, police asked both drivers to submit to a chemical test, but the results were still pending.
