BLOOMINGTON, Ind. --  Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton is asking the Bloomington Common Council to support a one percent food and beverage tax on prepared food to fund the expansion of the Monroe County Convention Center located in downtown Bloomington.  That tax would generate $17 million dollars a year.

The money is needed to enhance, compliment, and support existing amenities to attract prospective convention business.

27 other Indiana communities already use the food and beverage tax tool.
