MONROE COUNTY, Ind. -- The Monroe County Community School District has parted ways with its school bus provider and only has about a week more to find enough drivers to fill over three dozen routes.

The school district is ending their contract with Auxilio Services, the company who currently provides drivers for 42 of their routes. They decided to end the contract after 24 of the Auxilio's drivers left their jobs right before school began, forcing the district to bring in substitute drivers on the first day of school.

The contract ends on October 13 and the district will have to have their own drivers for those 42 routes by October 16.

“We are planning for the worst,” said Monroe County Community School Corporation spokesman Andrew Clampitt. “The worst would be no new bus drivers. And then we are planning for different scenarios. Folks should be finishing up their training and certifications by then.”

The school district has placed ads in the newspapers and posters and signs up around town that tout enhanced benefits and higher wages.

Drivers with at least 15 years of experience can earn as much as $17 to $20 an hour.
