MONTICELLO, Ind. - Murder charges have been filed against a man accused of fatally stabbing his mother and 6-year-old half-sister in their Monticello home.

David Scott Rodenbarger, 20, appeared in court Tuesday morning, where he pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder in the stabbing deaths of his mother, Michelle Haskins, 41, and his half-sister, Jillian Haskins, 6.

Police were called to the family's home at 5642 E. Richey Park early Saturday, after Michelle Haskins called 911, saying she and the girl had been stabbed.

A probable cause affidavit said Michelle Haskins died from a stab wound to her neck. Jillian Haskins died from multiple stab wounds and swelling to her brain caused by blunt force trauma.

A two-pronged meat fork and knife covered with what appeared to be blood were found near the victims, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit does not specify a motive for the stabbings.

Rodenbarger was provided a court-appointed attorney. His trial was set for June 11.
