Some IFD masks 'outside specifications'
Results come after McGrone injury investigation

INDIANAPOLIS - IFD said it has replaced a number of its masks following an investigation into an incident in which a firefighter was critically injured.
Firefighter Chris McGrone had to have a breathing tube inserted and be placed in a medically induced coma after suffering severe smoke inhalation while combating an arson in August.
A Significant Incident Investigation Team (SIIT) determined that McGrone's oxygen regulator became disengaged from his face mask during the fire. The investigation also showed that a number of IFD's other masks "fell outside the manufacturer's specifications for continued use."
Those masks have been replaced or sent to a certified repair facility, according to IFD Cpt. Rita Burris.
McGrone was released from the hospital Aug. 20.
