INDIANAPOLIS -- More than 250 Carrier workers have applied for voluntary separation as the company prepares to begin layoffs later this year.

The company will be moving 550 jobs to Monterrey, Mexico in two waves starting in August.

Carrier employees began submitting their applications for voluntary separation earlier this month. Those workers who apply will not be eligible for TAA benefits or unemployment.

Carrier will notify those who applied for separation by March 21 if their application is accepted.  Those employees will then have until April 6 to let the company know if they accept the terms.

Carrier announced in February that 1,400 jobs would move to Mexico, but a deal between the company and Donald Trump saved nearly 800 of those jobs.

Layoffs are slated to begin in August and will come in two waves; the second wave will be between December-January.
