MARTINSVILLE, Ind. -- A Morgan County pathologist contracted by the Marion County Coroner's Office has been sentenced for driving while intoxicated last September.

Elmo Griggs, 75, pleaded guilty on October 10 and was sentenced to one year probation. His driving privileges were also suspended for 90 days.

Dr. Griggs had several totes filled with human tissue samples in the back of his truck at the time of his arrest.  No charges were filed in relation to those totes.

Morgan County Prosecutor Steve Sonnega said the samples were properly handled and there was no biohazard issue.

According to Marion County Coroner's Office Chief Deputy Alfarena Ballew, Dr. Griggs was not providing or performing any services for the coroner's office at the time.

Ballew says they are waiting to see what will happen with Dr. Griggs medical license before determining whether to continue his contract with the coroner's office.
