INDIANAPOLIS -- A child was killed after being shot on the city's north side Saturday night.

The shooting happened around 8:35 p.m. in the 3900 block of Graceland Ave.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department identified the victim as DeShawn Lee Swanson, 10.

In addition to the child who was killed, three others were shot in the incident, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Among the injured was another male juvenile and two male adults. The juvenile was transported to Riley Hospital where they remain in serious, but stable condition. The two adults were also transported to area hospitals, and they too remain in serious, but stable condition.

Police said they are expected to survive.

Police say the victims were shot outside and ran into a home for cover. A family was gathered at the home because a classmate's elderly relative had recently died.

Just after 10:30 p.m., a separate shooting was reported in which a two-year-old was shot in the leg in the 6100 block of E. 40th Street, IMPD said. Shots were reportedly fired at the home from the outside and the child was hit while inside the home. The child was transported to Riley Hospital and expected to survive, but police did not immediately have any other information about that incident.

Detectives urge anyone with information about these incidents to call Crime Stoppers of Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS.  Callers may also text “INDYCS” plus tip information to 274637 (CRIMES).
