BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff issued a public safety announcement over the weekend after a series of overdoses, most of them tied to heroin.
Police say at least nine overdoses were reported over the weekend, five of them happening in one 24 hour period. No deaths were reported.
This isn’t the first time Sheriff Myers has issued this type of warning. Back in March a warning was issued after a string of heroin overdose deaths that may have been linked to ‘bad heroin.'
Columbus Police Lieutenant Matt Harris says their drug force has been working to help combat these cases. "Last January, we started what was called the joint narcotics enforcement team." He said they have been instrument in helping to remove drugs off the streets in Columbus and Bartholomew County.
Harris says the latest batch of heroin appears to have come from Cincinnati. He says police are still working to determine if this batch was cut with the painkiller Fentanyl, like some of the recent batches of heroin have been.
