MUNCIE, Ind. - A Muncie man has been arrested after admitting to punching his 2-month-old son, fracturing the infant's skull and breaking several ribs, police said.
Steven Edward Jones II, 20, was arrested Monday on preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent and battery on a child, the Star Press reported.
Jones and the boy's mother took the infant to Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital last week after the woman told police she came home from work and noticed her son's head was swollen.
The infant was transferred to Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, where doctors deemed his head trauma and healing rib fractures as non-accidental trauma, police said.
During an interview with investigators Monday, Jones admitted that he was responsible for the infant's injuries, saying he had punched the boy and had been rough with him, police said.
Jones was held without bond at the Delaware County Jail.
