MUNCIE, Ind. - A Muncie man has been arrested after he pointed a gun at a trooper's car and fired into the air, police said.
The trooper was transporting a driver believed to be intoxicated for a breath test in an unmarked car when he stopped at a red light at 26th Street and Madison Avenue just after 1:30 a.m.
Another driver stopped in the intersection, even though he had the right of way, paused and began driving again, police said.
That's when a man in the back seat of that car pointed a handgun out of the window at the trooper's car and then aimed upward into the air and fired a single shot, police said.
The trooper turned around and stopped the vehicle a few blocks away.
All three people were ordered out of the vehicle. A .380 caliber handgun was found inside, police said.
The back seat passenger, Richie Lee Morton, 27, was arrested on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, being a felon in possession of a firearm and appointed a firearm.
He was being held at the Delaware County Jail on Monday.
