MUNCIE, Ind. -- What started as a traffic stop ended with a man shot and an injured police officer in Muncie.

Police say a uniformed officer pulled over a van on Elgin Street. Inside the van were three suspects in a drug investigation.

According to police, the actions of one of those occupants led the officer to try to open the van's doors.

The driver of the van then took off, dragging the officer around 300 feet.

While being dragged, the officer was able to reach his service weapon and fire several shots, wounding one of the men inside the vehicle.

The officer was eventually thrown from the vehicle.

The officer was being treated at a hospital for road rash.

The suspect who was shot was reportedly in critical condition. The condition of the two remaining suspects was not immediately known.
