Muncie police: Kindergartener brought loaded gun to school

PD: Top slider of gun removed so it wouldn't fire

MUNCIE, Ind. - A Muncie kindergarten student faces suspension after police said he brought a loaded gun to school Thursday.

Police were notified just after 11:30 a.m. that the boy brought a semi-automatic handgun to Grissom Memorial Elementary School.

Authorities said he showed the gun to another student who told a teacher right away. School administrators were alerted and took the gun away.

The gun had a full magazine, but the top slider was removed, so it would not have fired, police said.

Officials said the student will be suspended. The Muncie Police Department, the Delaware County Prosecutor and the Department of Child Protective Services were all involved to figure out what to do next.
