Muncie school named third best public high school in the country

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities in Muncie has been named the third best public high school in the country in a recent study by education website Niche.com.

The academy, which was founded in 1988 by the Indiana General Assembly, serves as a residential high school for approximately 300 gifted and talented juniors and seniors from across the State of Indiana. 

It is located on the campus of Ball State University. 

Academy students choose from more than 30 science courses, including many Advanced Placement classes. Extensive laboratory experience allows students the opportunity to utilize state-of-the-art technology. Math classes, including several Advanced Placement courses, enable Academy students to make a smooth transition into some of the most challenging engineering and research institutions in the country. English, history, social sciences, foreign languages, and fine arts classes are among the over 80 humanities courses at the Academy. Many electives allow students opportunities not available at a typical high school. - From the Academy website

Niche.com gave the school a rating of A+ for great teachers, academics, health & safety and college readiness for students. The rankings were calculated based on a variety of factors. You can see those and their weight in the rankings below for how they chose the best among 18,000 public high schools analyzed. 

The No. 1 public school in the country, according to Niche's rankings, is Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois. Second best is Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy in Aurora, Illinois.
