INDIANAPOLIS – With the recent attack on the Muslim community in London, those in central Indiana want to keep peace by educating the community.
Officials with the Islamic Society of America, based in Plainfield, said they added extra security before Monday’s attack because of increased traffic around mosques for Ramadan.
The London attack left one person killed and eight injured after a man was accused of swerving his van into a group of Muslims who were leaving evening prayer.
Many in the central Indiana Muslim community said they feel comfortable with the same level of security, but the answer to violence is to educate and calm fears.
"Right now we do feel a lot of support from our interfaith community,” said Faryal Khatri of the Islamic Society of America. “We do feel that there is strong community support, but at the same time we do realize that a violent incident could happen at any moment, anywhere.”
