FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Allen County ended 2013 with a record-tying 44 homicides, but a case that's still being reviewed by the coroner could make last year the northeastern Indiana county's deadliest year ever.
The Journal Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1caxCOh ) that the Allen County Coroner's Office has yet to rule on the August death of 51-year-old Steven Dwayne Turner.
His badly burned body was found inside the trunk of a car parked at an intersection. If Turner's death is eventually ruled as a homicide, it would make 2013 the city's deadliest year on record.
The northeastern Indiana county closed the year with 44 homicides, the same as in 1997 when it had a record number of homicides.
Of the county's 44 homicides last year, 42 of those were in the city of Fort Wayne.
