MUNCIE, Ind. -- Neighbors are concerned about a home in Muncie that's been abandoned for two years.
They say the woman who lived in the house in the 2200 block of Darthmouth Avenue passed away.
Vandals have targeted the home, the yard is overgrown, and trash is being dumped there.
Tyler Olsen says he's made 20 to 30 calls to code enforcement about the house over the past two years with no luck.
A revitalization consultant in the building commissioner's office says the windows of the home hasn't been secured because it's not part of the city budget.
Muncie says there are 2,500 abandoned homes across the city, and they have to prioritize the most hazardous properties first.
The home on Darthmouth isn't considered dangerous enough, but it is slated to be torn down by early August.
Olsen says it was supposed to be demolished last year but it wasn't due to funding.
The city says even though they can't board up abandoned homes and is only able to demolish a small fraction at a time, anyone who has concerns can contact the building commission at 765-747-4862.
Another way the city is hoping to tackled blighted homes is through a city-wide survey in which people are asked to report condition of certain properties. You can access that survey here.
