HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. -- Christmas came early for people who routinely deal with traffic headaches on I-69 in Hamilton County.

The new interchange at I-69 and 106th Street opened Wednesday night.

Construction, which began in April, was supposed to wrap up later this month but officials say the work went so smoothly they got it done a few weeks early.

A spokesperson for the Indiana Department of Transportation says the interchange will help alleviate traffic around 96th Street and 116th Street in Fishers, especially during rush hour.

Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness says the project is not only good for drivers, but it's also good for businesses like the new IKEA store which is under constructionoff I-69 and 116th Street in Fishers.
