CARMEL, Ind. -- If you've been driving around the Circle City lately, you may feel as if you've been playing a game of "Dodge the Orange Cones" as a great deal of road construction is taking place.

The City of Carmel is facing some of the worst of it. The city will complete a series of construction projects on nine roads throughout the next three years thanks to its Carmel Link 2.0 plan released in July.

The plan is, “a concentrated infrastructure improvement program that will result in the completion of new roundabout intersections,” according to the City of Carmel, a.k.a, orange barrels everywhere.

This document posted on the city’s website outlines all current and planned construction occurring at intersections on (you can see details on the full project in a document at the bottom of this story):

  • Gray Road
  • 96th Street
  • Range Line Road
  • 116th Street
  • Guilford Road
  • Pennsylvania Street
  • Spring Mill Road
  • Towne Road
  • Keystone Parkway

Along with these planned construction sites, the city will also make storm water management and drainage improvement projects throughout the city, leaving the city with even more orange cones.

And it's not just Carmel. Other construction projects around Indianapolis are backing up traffic on interstates and beyond.

Check out all those orange cones, which are construction projects, around the Circle City in the map below. Note: When they're finally gone, our roads will be in much better shape.

Several major projects are happening on I-69 as part of Indiana’s Major Moves 2020 program.

The project will widen and rehabilitate 15 miles of the interstate in Hamilton County and Madison County.

Existing bridges, pavement and drainage structures will also be repaired.

The project is expected to be complete by the end of 2017.
