INDIANAPOLIS -- A Northwest High School student was injured by a knife during a fight with another student Wednesday, according to Indianapolis Public Schools.

The victim, identified as Jose Luis Vigil Jr., was transported to the hospital in good condition.

No other students were involved in the situation, and no one else was hurt, according to IPS.

"The safety of our students is top priority at Northwest. Administrators are investigating today's altercation and will take appropriate corrective action," a statement from IPS said.

Sources say the fight started over a stolen iPad. The fight happened before 2:00 p.m. between classes and was witnessed by other students.

"When I got to the hospital, he told me he was at his locker and the young man who came up to him and cornered him and asked him for his cell phone. My brother turned around said, 'I don't have anything, you're more than welcome to check my things.' Things escalated and the young man took out a blade and went for his torso. My brother's a little tall, so he put up his arm and was stabbed in the tricep," the victim's sister, Helen Lizano said.

The suspect, who is 17, was arrested and faces charges of battery with a deadly weapon.
