MARTINSVILLE, Ind. - Martinsville police are investigating the death of an 8-month-old baby, officials confirmed Monday.
Emergency crews were called to an apartment on Chestnut Street on Saturday afternoon, where the 8-month-old boy was found unresponsive.
The boy was later pronounced dead.
A local newspaper said the baby had previous health issues, and acting Martinsville Police Chief Rob Townsend confirmed that, but no specific information about the issues was given.
Morgan County Coroner Annette Rohlman said the baby did not have a pre-existing medical condition, contrary to the paper's report.
Rohlman said Marion County officials completed an autopsy on Monday, but it was inconclusive.
Rohlman said the pathology and toxicology report won't be ready for four to six weeks.
A team including the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, Morgan County Prosecutor's Office and the Martinsville Police Department has been convened to investigate the death, Prosecutor Steve Sonnega said.
