JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -- It's an unusual place for a grave – but Johnson County officials are doing everything they can to keep a woman buried in the middle of the road.

Nancy Kerlin Barnett's grave has sat in the middle of County Road East 400 since 1831.

However, over the past few years, her final resting place has been continuously disturbed – whether by distracted drivers running her headstone over or farm equipment scraping alongside it.

County officials are now spending $10,000 to dig her up, build a new retaining wall and bury her again. This time, they're doing it much deeper in the ground.

Barnett was buried there in the first place because nearly 200 years ago the area was part of a cemetery.

But in 1912, every other grave was relocated except for Barnett's.
