INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis man is trying to make the most of his "second chance" after years of bad decisions left him hungry and homeless.

Randy Fitzpatrick admits it was alcohol that brought him down - but after a manager at Delco Foods decided to give him a chance, he said he's determined to keep things above board.

"Living on the streets. I've done that, and it's hard," said Fitzpatrick.

It was Doug Deardorff, Vice President of Operations at Delco Foods who took a chance on Fitzpatrick back in October, despite all his hardships.

"Yes, we did a good thing and gave him a chance," said Deardorff. "But Randy took that chance and made the most of it."

Deardorff said they were so fond of Fitzpatrick and his work ethic, that when his temp position ended, they created a new one, just for him.

Fitzpatrick said being kept on at Delco has reinvigorated him to stay on the right track.

"Just to have my name on a mailbox. It's been a while since I've been able to do that, and that's going to be a goal," said Fitzpatrick.
