BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. - Sheriff’s deputies said a wreck involving a car and a scooter killed one Thursday in Bartholomew County, despite local citizens’ early efforts to help the injured.
Deputies said that just before 7 p.m. Thursday, deputies responded to a crash in the area of County Road 450 North and County Road 425 East.
Deputies said they determined Lisa Long, 54, of Hope, Ind., was traveling east on 450 North and the scooter, which was occupied by two people, was headed north on 425 East.
Investigators said the scooter failed to yield the right-of-way to Long and entered her car’s path of travel. Long had no warning and deputies said she was unable to avoid the crash.
Aaron Collins, 34, of Columbus, Ind., was one of the people on the scooter. Deputies said he was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital and pronounced dead.
The other person on the scooter, a man whose identity has yet to be determined, also received life-threatening injuries and was airlifted from the scene to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Authorities said they continue to try to determine the identity of the injured man.
Long received minor injuries and was treated at the scene of the wreck.
Investigators said they also determined the scooter involved in this crash had been reported to the Columbus Police Department in August.
Anyone who may have information as to the possible identity of the injured man is asked to call the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 812-379-1712.
Deputies were assisted at the scene of the crash by local citizens who provided emergency medical treatment to the injured, the Hope Police Department, Indiana State Police, the Clifford Fire Department, the Columbus Township Fire Department, Columbus Regional Hospital EMS and Lifeline Helicopter.
