INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett says one if his main priorities is public safety.

The city's new mayor has promised more resources to fight crime and make Indianapolis a safer place to live, work and play.

New IMPD Chief Troy Riggs said one of the biggest things he will bring to the department is his use of data as a smarter way to fight crime.

He says tracking things like quality of life issues, violent and non-violent crimes and other specific data points can give the department a lot of information of where and why crimes are occurring.

Riggs says they can use those results to move officers to targeted areas of the city.
