IMPD: 17-year-old accidentally shoots, kills 16-year-old friend

INDIANAPOLIS -- A 17-year-old boy was arrested Tuesday evening after police say he accidentally shot his 16-year-old friend.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the scene at the 3600 block of Glen Arm Road around 6:30 p.m. and found the 16-year-old boy dead from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police say the two teenagers were playing with a handgun when the 16-year-old was shot. The 17-year-old was preliminarily charged with reckless homicide.

The victim's identity has not been released.

Police first thought the shooting happened in the parking lot of the apartment complex, but now believe it happened inside the apartment.
