INDIANAPOLIS - More than 100 residents were displaced when a fire broke out at a high-rise apartment complex in downtown Indianapolis early Tuesday morning.
Firefighters were called to the 800 Capitol Apartments around 1:30 a.m. for a report of a fire in a rooftop common area.
Crews quickly evacuated the building and were able to put out the fire. The Indianapolis Fire Department said working smoke detectors activated throughout the building and the fire did not spread to any apartments, but a few apartments on the fourth floor did sustain water damage.
No residents or pets were injured, although they will not be able to return to the building because the utilities had to be turned off. Red Cross was called in to assist displaced residents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
