TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Police said Lee Edward Bemis, 25, and Kristina Gruner, 27, were arrested and preliminarily charged in connection with stealing a car and fleeing from a trooper on Saturday.
Police were notified when a stolen 2002 Chevrolet 2500 pickup was possibly spotted driving southbound on State road 63 from Vermillion County just before 4 p.m.
A trooper attempted to stop the truck, but the truck turned away and continued driving before crashing through the fence of a nearby business, police said.
Officers found the truck abandoned, and after a nearly 45 minute search of the wooded area on foot, police found the suspects lying in the snow near the Wabash River, a news release said.
Further investigation found the pair had allegedly driven a stolen van from Terre Haute to a business in Clinton, police said.
The pair found the 2002 Chevrolet 2500 pickup running and unoccupied and took off with the vehicle.
Bemis and Gruner were incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail.
